[September 3, 2023] Seoul Exports Integrated Transportation System Policy to Bogotá, Colombia

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has signed a business agreement to provide consulting services for establishing a next-generation integrated transportation system that connects all modes of transportation in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia — including buses, subways, and cable cars.
The agreement was concluded on August 31 between T-money and Agata, Bogotá’s integrated data analytics agency. The project period runs until January 2024.
Currently, Bogotá’s main transportation system is the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit). However, the city is planning to expand to other modes such as metro and light rail systems. Through this project, Bogotá aims to develop a next-generation integrated transportation system to enhance intermodal connectivity between different transport services.
Seoul expects this project to serve as a stepping stone to further export its advanced transportation policies to Bogotá and beyond. In 2011, Seoul previously exported its Automatic Fare Collection System (AFC) and Bus Management System (BMS) to Bogotá through LG CNS and T-money.
Based on one of the world’s most advanced public transportation systems, Seoul has been actively pursuing transportation policy export projects. In 2008, it exported the T-money smart card system to Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, for city buses, and later expanded the system across the entire rail network in 2022.
This year, the Seoul International Development Cooperation Agency (SUSA) plans to establish a master plan for a smart public transportation system in Makati, the central business district of Manila, the capital of the Philippines.
Recognized as one of Asia’s leading cities for excellent public transport, Seoul currently chairs the Asia-Pacific Government Agency Committee under the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) and serves as Korea’s representative on the UITP Policy Board, strengthening international cooperation networks in the transportation sector.
Yoon Jong-jang, Director-General of the Seoul Urban Transportation Office, said, “Based on Seoul’s world-renowned public transportation system, we aim to serve as a bridgehead to help private companies proactively expand overseas.”
